Travelling to visit friendsSticky

I travel frequently. At least twice a month, I take a weekend and go somewhere, and it’s normally to visit friends all over the country. Travelling from the West Coast can be time consuming, but it’s something that I just have to deal with if I want to continue living in Cali, which I do. In the past year, I’ve been to 14 different states, and have had an absolute blast doing it. Fortunately, my day job gives me a great deal of time off yearly (almost a full month) so I can take long weekends routinely.

One of my close buddies works for Quicken Loans in one of their offices in Farmington Hills, Michigan. He called me up out of the blue, and wanted to know if I would come out and help him with his preparation for a Half Marathon that is taking place in Chicago in a few weeks. Most of my trips include partying with buddies, so this was a welcome change, and I immediately agreed to it. He did say that he had a few ideas about going to Detroit, or Ann Arbor as well during the weekend, and I have never been to Ann Arbor, so this sounded like a blast of a time.

Since I was flying in on a Friday in the late afternoon, and Ryan was still working, I simply needed a one way ride to his place from the Detroit Airport. I figured I would call a Limo Service and see what I could get in the form of a Lincoln Town Car, which I easily found through www.limofarmingtonhills.com. I was picked up curbside by the chauffeur, but we got stuck in traffic and didn’t arrive at Ryan’s house until about an hour later.

Once there, I found the hide-a-key, and made my way into the house to get settled.

After Ryan arrived home, we discussed his specific workout routine, as it included strength training along with distance running to get prepared for the Half. He said he had been taking some supplements from Advocare, which had been helping him with his cravings for sugar. I have taken some similar products in the past (from another direct sales company), and the results were awesome. If you have the money for them, the products can be absolutely amazing, but because of the direct sales aspect, and paying distributors their commission, you can spend a ton of dough.

My triathlon training

I’m a glutton for punishment. Really, I’m a glutton for punishing my own body. i run a few adventure races every year, including the Tough Mudder, Spartan Race, and some smaller races that are more fun than anything else (Read: I’m not trying to set any records while I’m doing these). My friend Ryan and I did some training while I was visiting him in Farmington Hills, MI, which you can read about here.

Point being, I love to workout. It gives me a high that I can’t get with any drug, from doing much of anything else. You might disagree, but that’s just me, and I don’t think that’s about to change.

Cue to about 4 weeks ago. I stay in shape pretty well, so when my buddy Brian asked me to do a sprint triathlon with him, I was of course game. This one is taking place in Boulder, Colorado on July 26th, so I had about 7 weeks to get in running, swimming, and biking shape. Normally, I lift weights quite a bit, so the endurance is often times a big pain to me. I don’t really like to bike, but will do it if asked. And I’m a poor swimmer, or at least I thought I was before I jumped into the pool for the first time.

The Chromebook

I wanted to find a low cost solution for a laptop, and since there’s so many options out there today, I began my search by asking my brother, who is an expert at finding good deals and doing the research necessary to get a good product. I’m pretty good at it as well, but when it comes to technology, he’s the go to guy.

The conversation went something like this:

Me: Dude, do you have a good recommendation for a cheap laptop that doesn’t suck?

Justin: I got you, I’ll handle it.

Me: Wait, I’m simply looking for a recommendation, you don’t need to buy it for me.

Justin: Dude, I got you. I’ll look around and give you some recommendations.

Me: Okay, but I only wanna spend $300 max.

Justin: Plenty of options out there!

I swear, no less than 20 minutes later, I get an email in my inbox with a full scale comparison between Chromebooks, tablets, you name it, it’s in the report. He might as well have walked into Best Buy, personally spoken with a Geek Squad member, and had them write the report themselves.

Lets give this a test drive

Okay, so I’ve been trying to get around to doing this for a long time now, so here’s a blog post. Whoa, this is a bit weird. I remember back in 2007 when I was working in New York City in Midtown. A couple of my colleagues were discussing blogging, and one of them said ‘blogging is cool’, which I have thought about since that day (not every second, I’m not crazy!). So, I guess this has been a long time in the making.

So I guess I’ll start with making a bit of a hubbub about the recent news that the Iphone 7 is in the making. I can’t really tell if I’m the biggest Iphone fan at the moment. I had a Windows phone, then a Droid, and went to the Iphone 5c last year. The functionality is good, but I severely dislike (and maybe because I’m not a Mac guy) the buttons and some of the features.  But then again, the Windows phone was so far behind what the Iphone’s functionality level is that I can’t really complain. My wife has some sort of Samsung, and she raves about the functionality of it, so my plan is to patiently wait until I have an upgrade coming, and then latch onto one of the new Samsungs that I’ve heard people get crazy about.
